BAD'09--Climate Change(15/10/2009)

BAD'09-short for Blog Action Day 2009, well, "For those of you who don’t know, Blog Action Day is an annual event held every October 15th where bloggers across the world unite to write about a single issue on a single day. We like to think of it as one big blogfest for good, and our goal is to spark conversation on an issue of importance across the web."-that's what I got from the blogger buzz. Came across it in Sparky's post, and since the topic is a global issue -Climate Change- I thought I would join in the cause as well. Take a look at  www.blogactionday.org for more info.

So, climate change-not a foreign issue to any of us i guess, unless you are the kind that shut yourself from the news, from the world. But even then, you guys would have been exposed to it in your education, teachers, friends, etc. A change in the statistical distribution of weather over periods of time that range from decades to millions of years, a change that is caused mainly by us, humans which in turn will affect us in the near future, be it to us or our future generation. A good example will be global warming.

Although other factors such as plate tectonics, volcanism, etc. do play a role in the change, it is the human influence factor which is growing uncontrollable in today's modern world. Fossil fuel combustion, aerosols, cement manufacture, ozone depletion, animal agriculture, deforestation, etc.-sounds familiar to you? Doing any of those at the moment? Guess you do. Billions of cars out there on the road each there, aerosol everywhere around the world, forest fire, logging, air-conditioner (CFC), etc etc etc. And how many person out there actually cares about all this? Thousands? Millions? Surely not yet billions!

Percentage of advancing glaciers in the Alps in the last 80 years

Variations in CO2, temperature and dust from the Vostok ice core over the last 450,000 years

Glaciers melting, rise in CO2, temperature and dust, changes in sea level, and not forgetting the negative effect on flora and fauna-this are all just a small list of the effect from climate change, and all this is happening now. Yes, NOW! And how many of us actually realize it? Actually took the steps to work hard to reduce their Carbon footprints? Actually tried to promote it to the communities? That is not all. The worst is it is actually WORSENING! Day by day as we continue our daily activities, with no care for our environment, our beloved Earth and it's inhabitants is actually suffering!

To solve all this, every single person in this world would have to play their part. You might think your small action is meaningless to the environment, but remember, small it might be, collectively it is BIG enough to play a BIG part to save our Earth. Think for yourself, for Earth and it's inhabitants, and also for your future generations. You wouldn't want to see your children suffering out there, would you? So save Earth before it's too late....
